And the end is here…

Disclaimer:  The following post is just my opinions, thoughts, and love for my Oklahoma City Thunder team.  I don’t claim to know a lot about sports or basketball, so whatever I post, don’t take it personally.  If you do take it personally, I’m truly sorry you are that sensitive.

Last night, the Oklahoma City Thunder played game number 5 against the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals.  Miami was up 3-1 in the series and all they had left was to take this game to win the championship.  That is just what they did.

I am not a Miami Heat fan, and I am not a LeBron James fan.  If they showed him jumping up and down after the win one more time, I was going to shank someone.  Although now I’m torturing you by making you watch it.

from here

The Thunder made it to the NBA Finals, each year we’ve made it closer and closer, losing each year to the Champions.  We are a young team.  I say “we” as if I’m playing the game with them, but I have devoted a lot of time, money, and emotions while supporting them.  I am so proud of the Thunder. They have done so much for this city, and for this state.  They have put us on the map in a different way than being the state with the “really good college football team” or the place where that “awful man terrorized our country and blew up a federal building.”  Both of those things are part of our history/present, but to get recognition for something different is refreshing.

The group of mostly young guys have accomplished a lot, especially in this past year.  They faced a NBA lockout, which in turn shortened the season and made all the games they had to play seem back to back to back with little rest.  They persevered and made it to the playoffs, where we swept the Mavericks, beat the Lakers 4-1 in the Semi Finals, and challenged the San Antonio Spurs with a 4-2 win in the Western Conference Finals.

We then make it to the NBA Finals, playing against the Miami Heat.  Winning the first game at home, and losing the next four games.  We made a lot of good shots, played with heart, and whether you like it or not, had to deal with crappy referees.  You can’t really deny it, but that’s the way it was. However, we also made some bad decisions, shooting baskets that shouldn’t have been attempted, and just being reckless with the ball at times.  No team is perfect and we are a team that will learn from our mistakes and find power in our strengths.
I found this really funny, in a sad way: Either way, the Miami Heat are a good team and LeBron James is a phenomenal player.  I hate to admit it.  I do.  They definitely out played us in the final game, scoring 3 pointers after 3 pointers, taking shots and actually making them, and defending like champions do.   I’m a classy girl, so I will say it: Congratulations to the Miami Heat on your Finals win.

Another congratulations goes to my OKC Thunder Team.  You all did a stellar job this year.  Each year gets better, with being great team players and the athleticism increasing monumentally.  Also kudos to Scott Brooks and his coaching staff, I hope to see him back next year…  I look forward to next season already, and I know the Thunder will make this city proud no matter what.

Russell Westbrook is even growing on me.  I haven’t always been his biggest fan, yet I support him and all he has done for the team.  This is not an attack on him by any means, I actually kind of feel sorry for the guy because he can’t really catch a break no matter what he does.

Kevin Durant almost broke my heart in half last night.  I wanted to hug him when I saw this after he realized it was over:from here

Then after the game I see this and want to take him in my arms, hold him like a baby, and whisper “Now now, everything will be okay.” It was almost too much to handle, I may get a little emotionally involved.

It’s over and done.  I will always love the Thunder and I am glad they came to this state.  In a perfect world, all of the team would stay here and there would be no trades, but I know eventually some of my favorites will move on and leave.  I’m not going to think about that right now though.

Love Love Love.  Until next season my basketball friends!

Weekend. Norman Music Festival.

This weekend I went to my hometown for one of my best friend’s baby’s birthday party.  He just turned one and is getting so big.  It was good to see my friends because it’s so rare that we are all off on the same day to get together.

We met in nursing school and have stayed good friends afterward, even though our lives have taken us different places.  We try to get a picture together every time we are able to and we definitely got one this time.

I’m not even a fan of this picture of myself because it looks like I’m 4 months pregnant and am standing like I have to pee.  I do enjoy it because of the quick amount of time we had to take it in.

It looks like a pretty normal picture of a group of friends, right?  If you haven’t noticed, take a look to the far left of the tiny legs in midair with no body.  That’s Ashley’s son Brayden.  He was throwing a fit because he didn’t want to go home and since I was insistent on a picture together before she left, she just stuffed him behind her back as he was yelling.  Good times. :)

I came back home and went to the Norman Music Festival with T.  It was pretty crowded, but we had a good time.  We saw The Damn Quails, Other Lives, and Portugal. The Man play.  PTM was definitely my favorite, but the others were great too.  I love listening to live music, it soothes my soul.

This is another picture I’m not crazy about, and I’m sure T will kill me for putting it on here, but I have a reasoning for posting it.

Yes we look scraggly and sweaty, but it was humid and we were shoved in the middle of a billion people.

Also, if you didn’t notice…
I like a good photo bomb, and for some reason this guy’s face just cracks me up.  I may be easily amused, but there it is.

Oh and one last thing I cannot forget!

 YESSSSSSSS.

Look at this game winning shot by KD. Am-A-Zing.

Finally, a Thunder sighting!

Since I have lived in Oklahoma City and have followed the Thunder, it has been my goal to see/meet a Thunder player in person.

When the NBA lockout ended, I tweeted to a bunch of the OKC Thunder players.  I was psyched when I saw this tweet back from James Harden.

It doesn’t take much to excite me.

Last night, I went to meet T and some friends at the Biting Sow downtown.  Even though I drive downtown all the time, I seem to get lost easily.  I was driving around blindly with my window half way rolled down to hear the blues music and trying to find my way to the place.  I start driving down a street with a grassy median.  I’m slowly driving and there is a tall African American male, nicely dressed, about to cross the street in front of me.  He decided to stop and wait for me to pass.  He looked familiar so I slow down, and suddenly I realize who it is…

None other than Serge Ibaka, or Serge “IBlocka” because he’s a badass at blocking shots.

How am I so sure that it was Serge Ibaka?  I stopped in the middle of the road.  I didn’t slow down, I stopped.  With my window half way down. Staring right at him 3 feet from me.  Because I am so smooth and well-articulated, I said absolutely nothing.  I couldn’t find words.  He looked at me  like, “Lady, are you gonna drive on or not?”  I stopped and stared at him for a good 5 seconds, then drove on and called T immediately.  She was freaking out as much as I was, because he is her favorite Thunder player.

We considered going back to see if we could see him again, or as some would call it “stalking.” We decided against it.  You may think that a 26 year old woman would be more mature and not get so excited about such a small thing, but please don’t give me that much credit.

I leave you with this.
Helllloooooooo Serge.
